Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) has been a popular ingredient in cooking for quite some time. But did you know it has many other health benefits, both internally and externally? With all the greatness that ACV does, it’s easy to add this wonderful ingredient to our everyday life.

What is Apple Cider Vinegar?

Apple Cider Vinegar is a type of vinegar made from cider or “apple must.” A very acidic mixture, ACV helps the body in many ways. It can help fight fatigue, help balance your body’s pH levels – which will help with weight management and digestion of foods – aid in digestion, and help with focus and sleep troubles.

When you are buying your Apple Cider Vinegar, you want to make sure you’re getting the good stuff. We recommend a raw, organic ACV (like Bragg’s) that still has the “mother” still intact. The mother has the majority of the health properties that we are trying to put into our bodies.

What Does Apple Cider Vinegar Do?

Apple Cider Vinegar aids in the breakdown of fat, mucous, and phlegm deposits in the body. This improves the overall functionality of the body’s vital organs. This process is known as the original detox.

Balance Cholesterol

Pectin, which is found in ACV, is a water-soluble fiber that helps soak up fats and cholesterol in the body. This in turn allows amino acids to help regulate the “bad” cholesterol (LDL).

Balance pH, Alkaline

The pH of our bodies can either help or hurt us. Keeping our body as close to alkaline as possible is the secret to ultimate health. Everything from what we eat and drink to what we put on our skin affects our pH levels. Using ACV as an internal and external balancing remedy can help improve your health.

Improve Digestion

Known to help the body break down fatty and greasy foods, ACV can help improve your digestion and boost your metabolism. It can deter bad bacteria that is unwanted in the digestive tract, improving bowel regularity.

Clear Skin

ACV should be added to your skincare regimen at least once a week because of its ability to balance the pH of your skin. The acids that it contains, including alpha-hydroxy acid, helps to dissolve and absorb oil that clogs your pores.

Internal Uses of Apple Cider Vinegar

ACV is easily incorporated into your favorite drinks for a variety of benefits! From detoxing to weight management to balancing your body’s pH level, it’s no wonder everyone is going crazy for the stuff. There are so many ways to enjoy Apple Cider Vinegar. Take a look at our awesome ACV recipes! Beware – a little bit of Apple Cider Vinegar goes a long way!

Lemon Water

We already know that adding lemon to your water benefits your digestive system and can boost your metabolism. Well, adding some ACV to the mix helps with weight management!

Cranberry Apple Cider Vinegar

Raw cranberry juice and water help to cleanse our internal systems like our kidneys, liver, and lymphatic system. In addition to antioxidants, cranberries help our bodies absorb fats within our digestive tract and helps with blood circulation. By adding ACV to the mix, you are kicking up the power health punch this drink has!

Combine the water with the rest of the ingredients. You can dilute it as strong or as weak as you prefer.

Green Tea

Green Tea has been known for thousands of years for boosting the immune system and aiding in burning fat! It also has shown to benefit our overall health and longevity.

Prepare 1 cup of freshly brewed green tea with honey. Wait for the green tea and honey mixture to cool down before adding the ACV.

The Ultimate Apple Cider Vinegar Detox

Sometimes you just require an all-in-one, heavy hitting ultimate detox! This is where the Ultimate Apple Cider Vinegar Detox comes in. The great thing about this beverage is you can drink it as often as you’d like (we’d stick to one or two glasses a day, though). It is a great way to maintain a healthy internal system and stay refreshed throughout the day!

Mix together, add ice, and enjoy your detox!

Want a little extra health boost without adding ACV to your drinks? Add it to your food instead! Cooking with ACV is a very common practice. It is most often used in salad dressings, marinades, vinaigrettes, and chutneys!

External Uses of Apple Cider Vinegar

Face Wash

Since ACV is such an acidic substance, it can do wonders for our skin. Using (heavily diluted) ACV as a face wash or toner can help balance your skin. Be careful, though, our skin is already acidic! Make sure you dilute the Apple Cider Vinegar with water before you use it on your skin and make sure to wash it off! This mixture can help fight acne and get bacteria out of your pores.

Hair Rinse

We’ve all been there. We use shampoo and conditioner regularly, but our hair still doesn’t feel soft. You’ve got buildup, my friend. Using Apple Cider Vinegar with water as a hair rinse instead of conditioner once per month will help get all the gunk that builds up in our hair. Use 1 tbsp of ACV to 1-2 cups of water, depending on the length and thickness of your hair. After you shampoo and rinse, simply pour the mixture from your roots to the ends of your locks. Make sure you completely avoid your eyes! It will sting! Let your hair soak in all the goodness for 3-5 minutes and rinse it out. Voila! Clean, soft hair! You may smell like an Easter egg for a day or so, but the smell will go away.

Detoxifying Bath

Our skin is the largest organ of our bodies and it plays a huge role in detoxification.

Add 1 cup of ACV to your bath and soak for at least 20 minutes. This will help soften the skin, rebalance the pH level, and pull all the icky stuff out of your pores. ACV has antimicrobial properties, so it can help with any fungal or bacteria problems you may have on your skin. Just be aware of your body’s sensitivity. If you are not feeling comfortable (besides the vinegar smell, which can be off-putting), rinse off immediately. ACV soaks are not for everyone. Use your best judgement.

Things to Consider

Apple Cider Vinegar, like all vinegars, is an acidic substance. When you use it on your skin, pay great attention to how you feel, what it does, and any side effects. You should always test your sensitivity to ACV before you use it over your entire face or skin. Less is more.

Don’t drink Apple Cider Vinegar straight! Due to its severe acidity, it can harm your esophagus and the enamel on your teeth.

You will also smell like vinegar. Many people seem to forget how pungent this liquid is until they are dying Easter eggs. Using this on your skin or hair will result in you smelling like vinegar.

Always prepare your body before you detox. Make sure you drink plenty of water and eat fresh, wholesome foods before, during, and after your detox. Your body has to adjust to each situation. By providing the proper nutrients to your body, it will take a lot of the extra stress off it from detoxing.

Take care of your body, internally and externally, and it will take care of you. The first step is to have the right produt. Here is our recommendation:
